The (Election) Night Lingers…. (and other stories)

It’s Election night and we are gutted already, but we are staying up to see in the (possibly less than) Brave New World.

In the meantime, it feels like as good a time as any to announce that I have taken the plunge as an Indie author and published my first book. It’s a (short) collection of three short stories. It’s available on Amazon for 99p, on Nook for 75p and free on Kobo and iBooks.

Which brings me to the reason this book has been out a couple of weeks without such an announcement. Yeah, the prices are all over the place. I wanted to publish it free on every platform. The idea was to give new folks a taste of my work, and give out a bonus to those people who have bought my other books. But it turns out it’s more complicated than that.

Okay, so here’s where I get really British about this. Form an orderly queue…

If you are happy to spend your hard earned 99p or 75p on my book on the appropriate platform, then please feel free. If you want to download it for free, you can always go to iBooks or Kobo to do that. Alternatively, you can let Amazon know about the lower price via the appropriate link, so that, hopefully, they’ll price match and put the book on their site for free too. Alternatively alternatively, contact me via my email form or the comments stream below, and I’ll send you a link to download it directly.

I’m pretty damned proud of this book. I think that the stories inside of it are some of my best work. I’m also proud because I’ve found my way around all the technicalities and intricacies of publishing an ebook myself. That’s a big deal. This represents a certain level of freedom and (at last) control over my career.

This is the first time I’ve mentioned the book on any of the places that I mention things, and it’s currently at number 78 in the Amazon short stories chart. That’s not the hugest deal in the world (that British thing going on again…) but it does put me above quite a few Agatha Christie Collections, a book of Sherlock Holmes stories, and collections by Kevin Barry, Anne Enright and Virginia Woolf. Okay, that’s pretty cool, when I think about it now

I hope you know by now that I’m not one of those authors who posts ‘buy my books, buy my books, buy my books’ over and over and over again. So I’ll mention it now and retweet this perhaps once or twice over the course of the next 24 hours and then I’ll leave you alone. I just want to make sure that the people who would want to read these stories are aware that the collection exists. Okay. I’m very British again. I can’t help it.

Here are the links. You can download my book for free on Kobo here, or iBooks (search for The Night Lingers on your iPhone or iPad), or you can buy my book on Nook here, or on Amazon here. Or you can contact me directly for a link for a free download. If you do any of these things, I hope you enjoy the stories.

See you in the morning. I might have moved to Scotland by then…
